City Council Salaries

I don't know the breakdowns, but the total is on page 65 of the annual budget. (BTW, could you all please consider using a format like PDF or DJVU? It's easier to view it by downloading the whole thing instead of flipping through scanned pages.)

Drama in Bell

The LA Times had a story about the city manager of Bell getting paid some $800k a year, and his big project being a $50 million park. WTF? Now the people are pissed off, and the City Council is demanding that manager Rizzo resign. They're also discussing taking pay cuts because these City Council clowns have also been feeding at the trough to the tune of $100,000 a year or more.

The Biggest Cheapstake

With postal rates scheduled to increase by another two cents at the end of the year, the story of a guy who bought 2000 "Forever" stamps a few years ago was more than a little amusing.

Man Arrested With 18 Tiny Monkeys Stuffed in Pants

It was such a funny headline, I couldn't resist. Sadly, two of the monkeys were already dead.

Referendum in Azusa?

It'll be interesting to see if opponents of the Vulcan Mining expansion in Azusa succeed in getting a referendum on the proposed changes. Our experience in Rosemead suggests the big company's supporters on the council will find a way to keep the issue off the ballot.

Trouble in the Beautiful Hills

Over the past week, the Tribune's Montebello beat writer sure has been busy. Stories out of Montebello included:

Claims that police officers were assigned quotas for arrests and citations.

The new police chief, and the interim city manager that hired him both appear to have been fired.

Holy Relic, Batman!

Don Bosco is coming to Rosemead. Literally. He'll be spending the night at St. Joseph's Selesian Youth Center, immediately south of Don Bosco Tech.

Here's his touring schedule.
