Horton Hears a Who

Schwartzenegger nominated Jerome Horton as his pick for the Board of Equalization. He is by far the most conservative of the three names mentioned as potential replacements. He's also the weakest potential candidate for election (politically speaking), the most conservative, and the least favorite among Democratic groups.

That makes his confirmation less than a sure thing, which could leave Judy Chu's chief deputy running the office until after the November 2010 election. Or it could mean Arnold will need to consider another name.

Shea Endorsed by Equality California

Although unlikely to have any effect on the current vacancy, Equality California (a gay rights group) has endorsed the retention of current acting BOE member Steve Shea.
