El Monte Budget Looking Better?

Small story in the Tribune about the improved budget picture for El Monte.

I don't buy it. The city got a huge, multi-million dollar windfall from Cash for Clunkers. However, now, as the story notes, Toyota sales are plummeting, and nobody used to sell more Toyotas than Longo Toyota in El Monte. The rest of the auto industry isn't exactly setting records, either. Several of the dealerships near Longo have closed up.

If the fundamentals don't change, there's no reason to think their budget situation will remain stable.
